Marijuana: Good or Evil?

Okay folks. Welcome to my debut and feature on HMJ! This is my first time on here, and I’m happy to be writing for such a unique site, thanks to my friend Lenny!

So for you daily visitors, the name’s Devon. I’m currently the NBA contributor for Midwestsportsfans.com, and I’m not going to lie here people, marijuana is honestly like a wonder drug, a miracle drug, god’s healing plant.etc.etc.etc

So yes, you can say I’ve tampered with MJ here and there (smile). Care to talk sports? pot? chicks? cars? anything!? Follow me on Twitter!

But I’m done introducing myself, and I just want you to read what I’ve got folks. I present to you, my first ever feature on HMJ!

Well folks, we live in a society where  there is much to learn, do, and think about it. Sports being a HUGE one, just as politics, sex, money, and drugs. Whether you like it or not, there is always going to be the sensitive topics. So I was thinking to myself, and I aksed myself, “Devon, you know what? People need to stop hiding under the blankets and wake up to society’s problems and issues.” So I decided to enter the trenches of only where few writers have entered. The lair of sex, money, alcohol and…

..drugs.

Marijuana Should Only Be A Civil Fine, At Most

Two states have of March changed Marijuana laws and one is trying to change theirs. All changing to civil fines.

New Hampshire state House voted 214-137 to pass HB 1653, a bill the would reduce the penalty for possession of up to a quarter-ounce of marijuana with a civil fine of up to $200.

Hawaii, the state Senate voted 22-3 to March 2 to pass SB 2450, a bill that would eliminate criminal penalties for the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana and replace them with a civil fine of up to $300 for a first offense and $500 for subsequent offenses.

In Vermont, 72 percent of voters in Montpelier approved a non-binding ordinance asking the Legislature “to pass a bill to replace criminal penalties with a civil fine for adults who possess a small amount of marijuana.”

Lets hope all other states can not be like Kansas. Read the full story HERE.

Sample Medical Marijuana Menu

If you are one of the unfortunate souls (like myself) who wasn’t blessed to be born in one of the states where medical marijuana has been available for a long time, this post is for you. Most people who don’t live in California or Colorado or something don’t know the sheer quantity of marijuana strains and items that you can purchase at a dispensary. The selection is way better than your local dealer, trust me. Here are some of the items available at dispensaries via our friends at Pure Life Alternative in LA and yes, they all get you high.

In Kansas Even Fake Weed Is Illegal Now

We have spoken about this synthetic weed a few times before but now if you live in Kansas and you read HMJ, you won’t be able to try it for yourself. Why? Because they banned it. Not sure if I agree with it or not but either way, JWH-018 and JWH-O73 are now schedule I controlled substances in Kansas, illegal to possess, use or sell.

As expected, Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson signed a bill banning the active chemicals in K2 synthetic marijuana.

JWH-018 and JWH-O73 are now schedule I controlled substances in Kansas, illegal to possess, use or sell. The legislation goes into effect as soon as it’s published in the Kansas Register.

In Parkinson’s statement on the ban: “This legislation has received overwhelming support by Kansas law enforcement and the Legislature,” Parkinson says. “It will help improve our communities by better equipping law enforcement officers in addressing this issue and deterring Kansans from drug use.”

$10 Million In Pot… Gone

This week New Jersey Police made a record bust when they discovered a multimillion network of homes used to grow pounds and pounds of weed. They seized a total of 3,370 growing plants, 115 pounds of harvested pot and $65,000 cash. Not cool.

The investigation started accidentally on Feb. 17 when Monroe Township Police Officer Thomas Lucasiewicz smelled marijuana coming from the chimney of a home on Spotswood-Englishtown Road. When he knocked, Thu N. Nguyen opened the door, and Lucasiewicz smelled unusable pot plants being burned in the fireplace, authorities said.

Nguyen was arrested and police found 1,064 pot plants growing in the basement and master bedroom.

That was only the beginning, and the bust led to search warrants for five more rented houses in four other towns: Millstone, Old Bridge, Manalapan and Manahawkin.

Five of the homes were being used to grow marijuana. One of the suspects lived in a sixth home, on Hidden Court in Old Bridge, where police seized $60,000 cash and vacuum bags used to package the pot.

Stories like this bring a tear to my eye. Especially since I live in New Jersey so I know that at least one of my dealers supply probably traces back to this operation. If I go and any of my guys say they are dry, we are gonna have problems.

Now That Is My Kinda Community

These signs are placed in different areas here in my home state of New Jersey and I have no idea what they are for but it doesn’t matter. I will spend plenty of time in these communities.

California activists challenge LA dispensary ban in court!

The city of Los Angeles has been blowing up as of late in terms of medical marijuana.  The city decided to wait years to attempt to regulate medical marijuana dispensaries in the same fashion we have seen in places like Oakland and Berkeley, this in turn has caused a community uproar. People are worried about a variety of problems arising from the LA City Council’s actions not limited to where patients will get medicine, and the thousands that will be thrown into California’s already high number of unemployed.

However there was good news in yesterdays New York Times!

A lawsuit filed Tuesday challenges Los Angeles’ crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries, claiming that it would force nearly all of them to close. The suit, by two dispensaries and a medical marijuana advocacy group, accuses the city of violating the state constitutional rights of dispensary operators. The law caps the number of dispensaries in Los Angeles at 70. NYT

Americans for Safe Access is leading the charge to throw out the ordinance. Their top lawyer noted on the the dispensary ban,

“”The dispensary ordinance passed by the Los Angeles City Council might have been reasonable, if not for some onerous provisions,” said ASA Chief Counsel Joe Elford, who filed the lawsuit today. “The requirement to find a new location within 7 days is completely unreasonable and undermines the due process of otherwise legal medical marijuana dispensaries.”

More info on the legal challenge can be found here in the full press release. Thankfully ASA has been protecting patients for years, also the top brass in LA for ASA is Don Duncan from Super High Me and we all remember how crazy well spoken that dude was.

What A Waste

So the last time I checked glass is a very hard, nonelastic, and very fragile substance so I wouldn’t think that it could bounce. Amazingly enough, the guys over at every pipe thought otherwise, they were wrong though. I’m sure they have high quality bongs and water pipes but as this guy demonstrates, they aren’t giving basketballs a run for their money anytime soon.
