NFL Week 8 Recap

Another week in the books, another ass kicking for my fantasy teams. It was a fun week to watch football, despite no Sunday night game because of baseball. Only 1 out of my 3 fantasy teams have any shot of the playoffs and they suck too. I’m down to one survivor pool, so I’ve still got a shot at that, but there is 23 people left so there is a lot of games left to pick. I finally won one of my sheets for the week, the only game I got wrong was Arizona, so at least I’ve recouped some of my money on the season. I’m ok with it though, I’ve hit 3 Super Bowl boxes in a row and am up about 4 grand for the last 3 football seasons so I guess this is variance kicking in. And this asshole celebrating up on top here, you fucked me this whole season but I’m glad you are celebrating beating the Raiders.
Now that I got that out of the way, on to the games. We are about mid-season and now you can start picking apart teams’ weaknesses. I’ll start with the two undefeated teams. The Saints/Falcons Monday night game was a good one. The Falcons went into NO and most people were expecting them to get smoked. They looked like they lost the game at the end of the first half when they were tied and let up a quick TD then Matt Ryan threw a pick six right after. Despite being down in the blink of an eye the Falcons pulled it together at halftime and ended up having a chance to win. They scored a late TD after a bad penalty by the Saints and recovered an onside kick in the final minute. Ryan then threw one up for grabs for a final hail mary but it didn’t happen. People are now talking about the Saints going undefeated. Not going to happen even though their division sucks. They’ll lose a dumb game where Brees throws 4 ints or just lose a close one to the Patriots in the game people are already hyping up and its 3 or 4 games away.
I was able to watch most of this game because the Yanks were down big pretty early and I really thought Cliff Lee was going to go 9 innings again, but they came back and scored a couple on him to keep it interesting so I switched back and watched the last 3 innings, missing some of the third quarter. If baseball and football were so concerned on Sunday night about having to go against each other, why wouldn’t baseball make Monday the travel day? When stoners are complaining about scheduling then you know somebody isn’t doing their job because sports is about the only thing that I actually pay attention to a schedule. Anyway, Yanks win tomorrow night by lighting up Pedro and get to celebrate in the new stadium in its first year, the Steinbrenner family will be proud.

Although it looks like Joey Addai is about to get his leg broken, he survived and actually threw a td pass to Reggie Wayne, something nobody saw coming. The Colts are still unbeaten but survived a close one at the hands of the 49ers. The 49ers are an ok team, but they have no qb so this should have been an easier game for the Colts. They pulled it out in the second half but you can tell they have some holes in their defense, especially against the run. They’ll end up at 13-3 or 14-2 but I don’t think they have what it takes to go the distance this year. Peyton Manning is pretty much the coach of the team right now since they have a first year guy as the head coach, but he can only take them so far.
The other undefeated team going into this week was the surprising Broncos. They’ve won with a little luck, a good defense and some big special teams plays so you know that can’t last. They went into Baltimore and got smoked by the Ravens, losing 30 to 7. The Ravens are good and nobody is going to want to play them when they are a wild card team. This game wasn’t close but Denver plays in a really bad division and might end up with a bye in the playoffs. Expect their defense to carry them just like the Ravens defense used to.

Now from the heavyweights of the NFL to the glorified UFL teams. I normally wouldn’t show the highlights of the Titans beating the Jaguars for their first win but there are some amazing highlights from this game. The stars of the show and possibly the two best running backs not named Peterson were Chris Johnson and MJD. These two decided to try to one up one another for the whole game and ran for approximately 1,240 yards combined for the day. Some awesome 50 yard runs in here so it’s worth watching the highlight. The rest of both of those teams really suck though.
In one of the other bottom of the barrel games the Rams beat the Lions. This game was so poorly played on both ends that the only good that could come out of watching highlights would be an instructional video on how not to play the game. I’m sure the 12 fans in the stands in Detroit really enjoyed it.

Now the obligatory Brett Favre post. We all know the storyline that was shoved down our throat all week and since the Yanks/Phils pushed the Giants game back to 1 pretty much everyone in the world got to watch this game. It looked like the Vikes were going to roll but the Packers came back and made it somewhat of a game until a late td by Favre, his 4th, sealed it. He really is playing awesome this year and hasn’t had any interception blow ups so far and the Vikes look like they’ll be there with the Saints in the NFC Championship. Aaron Rogers is awesome but he needs some O-line help before he gets himself hurt.

Bad day for NY teams, the Jets, Giants and Bills all lost. The Bills are atrocious and the Jets just aren’t as good as the Dolphins and Patriots in their own division. The Giants also are looking like the season is going straight downhill and their injuries to Kenny Phillips and Aaron Ross in the secondary are just too much to overcome. Like I mentioned before the Giants game was moved to 1 and the Jets were already scheduled there so it was one of the only times you’ll see them play at the same time. Here are the Jets highlights since it was a way better and more entertaining game that the Giants game.
Before I get to 1500 words I’ll give you the rest of the scores on the day:
Bears 30, Browns 6
Texans 31, Bills 10
Eagles 40, Giants 17
Cowboys 38, Seahawks 17
Chargers 24, Raiders 16
Panthers 34, Cardinals 21
