NBA Wrap: No Kobe, no problem. No KG, Problem
Pau Gasol shines in his Laker debut
Without much help from Kobe Bryant, the Lakers didn’t seem to lose a step against the Nets in New Jersey. Kobe left the game early in the second quarter with a finger injury and the new Laker Pau Gasol picked up the slack and lead the Lakers to victory over the Nets. Bryant finished with only 6 points. That was his lowest scoring effort in over a year.
The man they call “Pow” started his Laker career strong scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Derek Fisher added 28 points and the Lakers topped the Nets 105-90 on the road. The win improves them to 3-1 on their 9 game road trip.
Watch out for the Lakers in the West. They are a real contender in the west now. If they can mesh this new squad together, they could really come out of the Western conference.
Celtics lose to the Cavs without KG
The Celtics played their fourth game without Kevin Garnett last night and it was very apparent. They lost to the Cavs 114-113. It was very apparent that the Celtics could’ve used the Tickets defense. Both teams decided that they wanted to take the night off on defense. Both teams shot over 50% from the field and over 47% from three point land. They were both very sloppy on offense as well. The Cavs had 18 turnovers while the Celtics had 19. Didn’t seem like anyone really wanted to win this game.
LeBron James played well though. He ended the game with 33 points, 9 boards and 12 assists. He continues to learn and grow into the most dominant player in the league.
Around the league
- Tim Duncan dominated the middle and San Antonio’s stingy second-half defense turned a close game into a rout Tuesday night, leading the Spurs to a 116-89 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
- Philadelphia stunned the Wizards with a 17-0 run late in the fourth quarter that lifted the 76ers to a 101-96 win.
- Mo Williams scored 32 points and led a fourth quarter rally to help the Milwaukee Bucks snap a three-game losing streak with a 102-97 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.
