It’s been a long time since the last time the Chargers won a playoff game. 13 years to be exact. Last year they even fired Marty Schottenheimer because he couldn’t win a playoff game.
It didn’t look good in this one in the beginning. They were down 6-0 at halftime. The Titans defense stifled the NFL’s leading rusher LaDainian Tomlinson as well and the Chargers were basically unable to get anything going. Their gameplan going in was to stop Tomlinson, which they did. They dared Philip Rivers to beat them and he was able to help them to a 17-6 victory.
Rivers had nice 25 yard touchdown pass to Vincent Jackson that finally gave the Chargers the lead in the third quarter. After that there wasn’t much action until the fourth quarter when Tomlinson was finally made it to the end zone. LT tried to jump over the pile, he didn’t make it but he made a second effort that got them the touchdown.
Fortunately for the Chargers, they’re defense played very well and kept them in the game. Vince Young was hobbled all over the field and tried to keep them in the game but he wasn’t able to get it going.
The good news for the Chargers is that they won the game. The bad news is that their all pro Tight End Antonio Gates was injured. They are a completely different team without him and it will be tough for them to go into Indianapolis and beat the Colts.
