Ok so I was reading this post of at Blog of Hilarity that had this picture above.  I laughed because it got me thinking,  you know when you're walking down in the street in New York or whatever city you live in and you see those homeless guys either playing music, shaking a cup or holding a sign that saying "Please help", you never really feel like helping those guys..?

Why's that?

I think it's because of lack of creativity.

Here are some of the homeless guys who actually put some work in and made funny signs that deserve at least a quarter.

The "At Least He Keeps It Real" Sign

Needs Your Money For Revenge

The Homeless Computer Geek

This Guy Is No Kimbo Slice

Fuck You?

The Watch Out For the Gremlin Behind You Sign

Hey Wait, I Need Money For This One Too!

Do You Know The Blunt Truth?

Here is a hilarious video I found over at 420 Blunts today.

First off, I think it's mad funny how everytime he says marijuana the lady screams at the top of her lungs.

Also, where do they get this permanent state of insanity symptom from??  If that's the case I' crazy then a motherfucker.

Thirdly he said people would call you names like it's a bad thing.  I kinda like that Smokey McBongwater name.  I would rock with that.

Barack Obama’s full acceptance speech

Barack Obama is going to be our new President. Who would've thought this day would come. This was a very exciting and inspirational speech from Barack, even though he did keep us waiting for a minute. It's cool though.

This reminds of the old Chris Rock where he said we would never have a black president and he had me convinced too. Apparently he never met Barack.

This should be about the issues, not race

This thing shouldn't be about race but this is America. So both sides are guilty of that.

With that being said, lets bring it home Barack.

Back and better than ever

What a week.

So I just moved into my pops place.  It sucks but it is what it is.  I am going to use this opportunity to stack my chips and prepare to get myself back into school.  My main goal for moving to Texas in the first place was to get to know my dad and to get myself back into school.  I've gotten to know my dad a little so I know where I get a lot of my personality traits from.

So back to Sportfiends.  I have some new ideas for daily posts and I have set myself a daily schedule.  Those of you who are regular readers should enjoy it and others will start to.  :-P

We’re back online

Ok so I purchased a new laptop today.  It looks pretty decent but I have to get used to using Vista.  :-/.

I tried taking my other computer that got fucked up to a computer store but they told me that it wouldn't even be worth it to try and fix so that sucks.  It's all good though.  So I'm usin the laptop from now on.  This should give me some more versatility and hopefully make me more productive.  More updates to come.

It doesn’t get much more disgusting than this

Here is a very disturbing story coming out of Ohio.  Apparently there is a new kind of sex offender there that instead of touching little boys, collects their urine from out of toilets to drink it and sometimes he even pays for it.  I would write more about it but I just ate lunch and I want to keep it down.

Don Imus is a clown

aleqm5hyvyhkbizpx_u6nkx_kqma2fhceg.jpg

Where is Buzz Bissinger when you need him. Why is it that people are so adamant about criticizing bloggers when there are guys like Don Imus on the radio.

Well I'm a little late on this whole thing so I will attempt to catch you guys up on it as well as myself.

The infamous Don Imus was holding a conversation yesterday on his radio station about Adam "Pacman" Jones and how he dropped the name Pacman and about all of his arrests. When he was asked about the arrests he asked "what color is he?" When he was told that Pacman is black he said "Well, there you go. Now we know." Wow!!!

Here is the AP report on it.

So I guess all the racial sensitivity training he got after his comments last year were very productive completely ignored....

After the comments, Imus was criticized by many in the blogosphere as well as Al Sharpton, who released this statement after he heard about the comments:

"It has been reported to me that statements were made by Mr. Imus this morning and National Action Network has monitored his show since his return. I find the inference of his remark disturbing because it plays into stereotypes. Any use of stereotypes is always counterproductive. We will determine in the next day or so whether or not his remark warrants direct action on our part as we did in April of last year."

So today Imus got back on the radio and made an attempt to defend himself by saying that he wasn't making fun of black people but in fact he was criticizing police for arresting blacks for no reason:

Nice try Don. We don't believe you though. Just because you work with black people doesn't mean that your tolerant of them.

Pacman also released a statement today stating how he felt about the whole situation:

"I'm truly upset about the comments," Jones said. "Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I'm upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly. I will pray for him."

This is unbelievable but then again, the way I've learned about reporting your opinion, when you give it, if your not pissing anyone off then your not doing something right. Thats not to say that you should go out and blatantly try to piss people off though.

Don Imus is basically doing what I am doing with this site. He is stating his opinion and it is clear that he is racist. It's all good though. I respect him more for making that clear.

Ok so I think we're all caught up.  I'm sure there will be more to report on this story in the upcoming days.

Sports blogs could be changing

Greg Oden and some bitch

Recently sports blogs have been highly scrutinized by the likes of ESPN, Buzz Bissinger, Bob Costas and many other "real" journalists. Some of their main complaints has been that blogs are malicious, gossipy and vulgar which a lot of them are (including this one). They feel that regular fans shouldn't have the right to post their opinions without formal training despite the fact that in America we have rights like freedom of speech and freedom of press. So as a result they've taken some strong stands against blogs and the sad part is that a lot of blogs are feeling the pressure and folding.

In an LA times article talking about how sports blogs are becoming more and more censored made me realize that it's true. I've seen a decline in the normal edginess of blogs like Deadspin and The Big Lead which are some of favorites. Why are they softening up?

One reason for their recent softness is the fact that these blogs bring in so much daily traffic that they feel the need to only use only legit sources and sound more professional but at what cost?

When rumors and pictures like the Kobe Bryant cheating on his wife rumor and the Matt Leinart pictures were released, the blogs that reported them got tons of traffic. Whats the reason??

It's because that is how our society thinks now. Whether the journalists like it or not, people want dirt. People want to know all the scandals. People want to see celebrities in peculiar and sometimes embarrassing situations because it makes them more human.

When I first started this blog, the intention was for it to just be a sports blog. I aspired to be the next ESPN but when I actually write about sports and the scores and things like that, NO ONE READS IT! The stories that get the most attention are the scandals and the half naked bitches. If you just clicked one of those links, you just proved my point.

You have to give the people what they want if you want them to come back right?

These blogs are so well established that they will get traffic no matter what they write but what about the average up and coming bloggers such as myself. We need these scandals and naked women to draw in new readers.

After talking about the current state of sports blogging, the article then talked about the dirty and it's creator Nik Richie. The Dirty specializes in candid, salacious photos and has become known in the sports world for posting snapshots of famous athletes in private and sometimes embarrassing moments.

Nik has decided that he is not going to change his approach to blogging despite all the pressure. When the Kobe Bryant rumor broke, some blogs were cautious about posting about it but not the Dirty. They put some of the most info out about it and were not concerned with the repercussions even though they got a cease and desist letter from Kobe's lawyers. Nik stated how he felt about it on a recent radio appearance.

"All these other sites are evolving because everyone's putting pressure on them for their journalistic integrity," he said. "That's kind of a sell-out. . . . I think it's 100% less fun."

I love that quote. It says exactly how I feel about it. That is the reason most of us got into this in the first place. It is a very fun career to have and now guys are trying to be all politically correct and everything but it doesn't make any sense. If someone wants to read an unbiased, well written yet boring article than they will go to ESPN or CNN or something like that. Thats not what most of us aspiring to be.

I like to post about half naked women in bikini's, scandals and things like that mainly because if I wasn't writing about it, I would probably be looking those things up myself. Like it or not journalists, this is what the people want. So I just have one question.... ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!?

What do you think?  Do you agree with sports blogs cleaning things up or do you think that they should remain edgy?

RIP George Carlin

George Carlin

I just woke up and heard the news today that Comedian George Carlin passed away at the age of 71. I was a big Carlin fan just because he wasn't scared to say how he felt about things. I'm sure he's offended many people along the way but hate him or love him it was hard to not respect him.

Here is a video of him doing a bit on sports...
