The lovely lady of rap Trina has released the video for her new single Million Dollar Girl ft. Keri Hilson & Diddy. It’s nice to see femcee’s (female mc’s) making their way back onto the scene. Trina and Keri look amazing as always.
“I like my men like my car, strong and built like horses.” – Trina
The next luminary in my “Masters of Rap” series is Biggie Smalls, aka The Notorious B.I.G. A man of unparalleled lyrical skill, Biggie rose from dealing drugs in the streets of Brooklyn to the pinnacle of the Billboard charts.
There are so many rappers today making millions who aren’t fit to carry Biggie’s jock. Gunned down on March 9, 1997, all we have now are re-mixes and re-hashes (much like with Tupac). So enjoy what’s left of a man who we lost way too soon.
The much awaited video for Lloyd Banks- Beamer, Benz or Bentley ft. Juelz Santana including cameos from Maino, Beanie Sigel etc. Pretty much what I expected…. cars, girls, n rappers.
Here’s a vid one of our faithful HMJ readers sent in. The artist Dub FX is actually really dope and multi-talented, making his own beats and writing his own lyrics. If I saw him performing on the NYC streets I definitely stop and donate. You can check his music out at dubfx.bandcamp.com/
As I have finally accepted that I no longer live in the California sunshine, there are two things that I have had to mentally overcome. First is obviously that I no longer have access to the best weed in the world and am instead expected to pay ridiculous prices for what Philly calls “fire” and second, that no one knows anything about some of the best hip-hop this country has to offer. When approached about Bay Area hip-hop, most people will point to the Hyphy movement that momentarily hit the mainstream a few years ago. And while I have great respect for the hyphy movement and the “we don’t give a fuck, let’s go dumb” aspect of it that so encompasses the Bay Area mindset; if you are one of those people whose word association for Bay Rap is Hyphy, consider this an education.
If you’re not yet familiar with Curren$y the Hot Spitta, for one, you don’t read this site very often, and secondly, you’re missing out. In addition to murdering it on the mic (if you haven’t come up on Smokee Robinson yet, stop reading this and go get it), Curren$y is also a well known weed enthusiast. Answering the questions that stoners have been contemplating for years, Curren$y and his sidekick Trademark the Skydiver took a hint from the Discovery Channel (always a stoner favorite) and created Mythblazers, a web-series in which they investigate and test well known weed myths. The three episodes they made are really helpful, but leave a couple things out, I’ll try and fill in some of the gaps they left.
Chip tha Ripper dared you to “Ask About Me” (ft Kid Cudi) on his Feb. 09 mixtape Can’t Stop Me and they’ve been asking since. “Like that” (prod. by Blitz Beats) is off his Dec. 09 released mixtape The Cleveland Show. Here at HMJ we’re always supportive of fellow stoner artists.
