Bill Buckner returns to Fenway: Mets fans reminisce
Bill Buckner threw out the ceremonial first pitch today at the Red Sox home opener at Fenway Park. Though Bill Buckner was a really good player and had a very productive career, many Red Sox fans still hate him.
Why? Well despite being a very good player, Buckner will always be remembered for making the error in the 1986 world series that helped the Mets make one of the most improbable comebacks in sports history.
Buckner let a slow rolling hit by Mookie Wilson go through his legs and it allowed Ray Knight to score the game winning run in the bottom of the 9th of game 6. The Mets would go on to overcome another 3 run deficit in game 7 to take the 1986 world series.
Here is the infamous play:

After the game, Bill Buckner tried to commit suicide. The train went through his legs though.
