Daily Fix: Sex, drugs and 100 MPH fastballs

angelamoyers.jpgThis is a new daily feature article that I will be implementing into Sportfiends.com daily. This will be a post similar to The Big Leads: PM Roundup articles where I will be posting about and linking to some of the second page stories going on in sports or anything else goin on that is interesting.

As the dealer, I have to keep you fiends tweakin so here goes nothin, look forward to seeing this and much more new features coming soon including a revamped forum (vBulletin, when I can get VB figured out; lol).

The young lady to the left (Angela Moyers) is another “close friend” of Roger Clemens. According to their sources, the daily news is reporting that our boy Roger had quite a few attractive friends who flew on his private jet. Not bad Roger. [NY Daily News]

NBA playoff ratings are through the roof, much different than last year. [USA Today]

The AP is reporting that they have sources that told them that Kevin Durant will be named as the NBA Rookie of the year. I have sources that told me that too, they are called stats and game highlights. [Yahoo]

Our friends over at The Legend of Cecilio Guante took the time to pick out the hottest Olympic hopefuls and let me just say, this gives me a lot more national pride…. USA USA!! :-D [The Legend of Cecilio Guante]

Karl Malone is another example of a black man whos a deadbeat dad with exceptional genes. Damn it, why do we have to be so damn sexy. The mailman had his first kid with a 13 year old when he was 18, now that guys in the NFL and wheres Malone? No where to be found. [Deuce of Davenport]

Alex Rodriguez is hurt… awww poor baby… He should probably rub some money on his injured quad, that’ll probably make it feel better. [NY Daily News]

Sean Avery hospitalized with lacerated spleen: Karma is a bitch

seanavery-hurt.jpg

So it’s not bad enough that the Rangers lost the game on Wednesday but later on that evening, their resident bad boy Sean Avery was rushed to the hospital after he suffered a lacerated spleen.

Avery, 28, arrived at St. Vincent’s Medical Center about 3 a.m., a hospital source said. Five hours earlier, the Rangers lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Stanley Cup playoff game at Madison Square Garden.

Avery’s mother, Marlene, told the Toronto Sun that her son had a collision with a Pittsburgh defenseman in the first period and played the rest of the game with a lacerated spleen.

Sounds like a pretty bad night for Avery. This just goes to show you that what goes around comes around. It will always catch up to you. Somewhere, Martin Brodeur is laughing.

Conflicting reports on Mike D’Antoni: Will he be fired or not??

mike-dantoni.jpgIt was reported by Sport Illustrated’s Jack McCallum that Phoenix Head Coach Mike D’Antoni had been fired from the Suns after their 5 game first round loss the the San Antonio Spurs.

Now this wouldn’t have surprised me at all considering that with D’Antoni, the Suns could never get past the Spurs even though I would give him a pass this year though. If anyone should’ve gone this year, I would say that it should’ve been Steve Kerr after making the decision to bring Shaquille O’neal to a team that already had 60 win season chemistry.

Later, it was reported that Kerr has no intention on firing Mike D’Antoni and has no idea where these rumor came from:

“There’s no truth to that,” Kerr told the Arizona Republic. “I asked Mike when the story came out and he denied it. Mike’s our coach and has done a great job for four years. We’ll get together soon and talk about where this team can go from here.”

This just goes to show you that main stream media messes up too. Take that Buzz Bissinger.

Avery Johnson is fired: It’s a wrap for Avery

averygame.jpg

Ok let me start off by saying that I really don’t agree with this but it is what it is. Avery Johnson was fired today as the Mavericks head Coach after their second straight first round playoff loss.

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that both the Mavs and Johnson, feeling that a coaching change was inevitable, wanted to come to a resolution quickly so Dallas could begin interviewing other candidates and Johnson could pursue another job.

Johnson leaves with an impressive résumé after three-plus seasons, but Mavs owner Mark Cuban couldn’t tolerate a bottom line of being 3-12 in the playoffs since blowing a 2-0 lead in the 2006 NBA Finals.

The Mavericks followed that disappointment by the embarrassment of being ousted by Golden State in the opening round last season in one of the biggest upsets in league history. They were just dumped in five games by Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets. Dallas didn’t win a single road game against the Heat, Warriors or Hornets, an 0-9 skid that was too much to overcome.

They didn’t waste anytime on this one. They just lost last night.

Avery Johnson’s regular season record was a pretty impressive 194-70 but in the playoffs he was only 23-24 with a loss in the finals against the Heat in 2006.

I wouldn’t say that these losses were Johnson’s fault though. I guess they always put the blame on coach no matter what but in this case I think either Jason Kidd or Dirk Nowitzki had to go. Jason Kidd was torched by Chris Paul in their matchup against the Hornets and Dirk Nowitzki is as soft as a feather and gets torched in every playoff series.

DeShawn Stevenson is losing it and oh yeah he likes Michael Vick fan?

deshawn.jpg

Ok so I haven’t had as much of chance to report on this as I wanted to. This whole fued between DeShawn Stevenson has gone from a few comments to a lot more.

Ok so it started with DeShawn calling LeBron James overrated. Thats an interesting assessment considering that LeBron averaged 30.9 ppg, 8.1 rpg and 7.4 apg. DeShawn had some pretty staggering numbers himself (not)though, with 11.8 ppg, 1.50 rpg, and 3.3 apg. I guess those calculations are overrated though or maybe they just calculated it wrong.

From LeBron didn’t pay attention to his comments saying that it would be like ‘Jay-Z responding to something negative about him said by Soulja Boy.’ Thats pretty good. Soulja Boy proceeded to back DeShawn up.

It didn’t end there though. Jay-Z got in the mix. He went at Stevenson on a pretty decent diss track.

Now with the Cavs up 3-1 and LeBron making things look easy the Wizards are preparing for the matchup and DeShawn showed up to the hotel dressed like this.

I guess thats his way of saying this is gonna be a dog fight.

Peyton Manning is a nice guy… NOT

So from the image you get of Peyton Manning from the Mastercard, Gatorade, and Sprint commercials is that he is a nice guy and a team player. Not in this commercial though. He is just yelling a swearing a lot in this one so I’m not really sure what he’s trying to sell but whatever it is, you’d better get it or else you’ll get it from Peyton.

Celtics/Hawks Game 4 Altercation: Zaza Pachulia decides to go toe-to-toe with KG

Ok so things are getting really testy in the Hawks and Celtics series and it seems to be working in the Hawks favor. They have tied the series with the Celtics (who many people expected to win in a sweep) and they are definitely getting into the head of the leagues best team.

Whether or not they can put it all together and be this years Golden St Warriors, I dunno, but they already had a moral victory in this one, if that counts for anything. In this video Zaza Pachulia (who?) goes toe to toe with Kevin Garnett and he shows that the Hawks aren’t gonna be backed down easily.

Buzz Bissinger hates blogger too: What else is new

leitch.jpg

H.G. “Buzz” Bissinger who is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of Friday Night Lights was on a panel with deadspin blogger Will Leitch to discuss the future of Journalism and about how the face of sports media is changing. That didn’t happen though.

What was supposed to be an intelligent, adult conversation turned into nothing more than an old guy crying about how bloggers are idiots.

“This guy, whether we like it or not, is the future,” Bissinger said, while pointing his finger at Leitch. “The future in the hands of guys like you is really going to dumb us down to a degree that I don’t think we can recover from.”

Of course he has no source of information, he didn’t know the difference between a blog post and a blog comment and honestly, I’d be surprised if he has ever actually read a blog in his life.

This is just another example of an old white guy who is angry about the fact that the world is changing and that there are more voices out there now to compete with. In the past, it was nothing but old white guys talking to other old white guys and Bryant Gumbell, but now the youth of this nation have a voice. Nevermind appreciating that there is more room for discussion and the fact that the people actually love it, they’d rather go on rants where they make themselves look like idiots.

I commend Leitch for maintaining his composure and not sinking to this guys level. It only made him look worse.

Larry Brown taking over the woeful Bobcats

larry-brown.jpg

So they both needed something. Larry Brown wanted another shot at a coaching job and Michael Jordan can’t live being known as a loser, in any facet. You knew that Larry Brown wouldn’t stay away for too long so the two former North Carolina players got together and put a deal together to make Larry Brown the new Bobcats head coach.

This will be Larry Browns 9th head coaching job in the NBA and his first since he was ran out of New York (I wonder how that worked out for the Knicks). He will replace Sam Vincent who was abruptly fired by Michael Jordan and the Bobcats on Saturday.
